Minimum wage increase effective 1 July 2010
4th June 2010
Fair Work Australia has made its first minimum wage decision. This decision affects the national minimum wage, modern award rates of pay and rates of pay in certain transitional instruments.
The new rates of pay will take effect from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2010.
The national minimum wage order includes:
- a national minimum wage of $569.90 per week or $15 per hour;
- two special national minimum wages for award / agreement free employees with a disability; and
- a casual loading for award / agreement free employees of 21 per cent
Modern awards
The decision increases modern award minimum wages by $26 per week or 69 cents per hour (on the basis of a 38 hour week).
Proportionate increases will apply for employees that are paid a percentage of adult rates (e.g. juniors and trainees).
The determinations necessary to give effect to the increase in modern award rates will be made available in draft form shortly. The updated modern awards with new rates will be published as soon as possible after that.
Transitional APCS / Division 2B enterprise awards / State reference transitional awards
The minimum rates of pay in these instruments are also increased by $26 per week or 69 cents per hour (on the basis of a 38 hour week).
The rates in continuing Schedule 6 instruments and Division 2B State awards are not affected by this decision.
