Resume Advice
Your resume is an important tool in your job search. This is your first impression that you will make to the employer and is your chance to demonstrate what skills and experience you bring to a position.
Key Points:
- Clearly indicate places and dates of employment.
- Employment history should be in reverse chronological order.
- Ensure you list key duties for each position.
- Ensure you have up to date contact information.
- Three pages is an ideal length. A one page resume works well for the recent graduate. If you have an extensive work history, limit information to what is pertinent to your current career objective. Make sure the most important information is stated on the first page.
- Make sure there are no typographical, spelling or grammatical errors.
- Have someone proofread your resume. Another set of eyes may see errors you have missed.
- Information that has been crossed out or handwritten is unacceptable.
- Make sure your resume will email and copy well. Do a photocopy test.
- Consider using high-quality white or off-white paper.

Interview Tips
The interview is where you take what you presented in your resume and develop it further.
Key points:
- Do your homework beforehand. Check the website, talk to someone you know who works there. Find out what they're about and be familiar enough to discuss that at interview.
- Think back on your prior work experience - what strengths do you bring to the workplace and this position in particular? What have you liked/disliked about previous jobs? What weaknesses do you have in relation to the position and how will you spin that in a positive light?
- Go through some sample interview questions and think about how you would respond
- Develop questions that you have about the position and or organization for the employer
REMEMBER!! A job interview is a 2 way street - you are there so you can be assessed for the position but it is also your chance to assess the organization and see if it is a good fit for you!
